About Six17 Photography
Welcome to Six17 Photography!
My name is Tanya and I am a Studio and Natural Light Portraiture photographer in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
My love of photography came from my Mom.
Growing up, there was always a camera loaded with film around, not only for the special events,
but the day-to-day moments.
She taught me…
the importance of capturing memories and documenting names and dates, which is evident from the plethora of photo albums we have with printed photographs going back to when she was a child.
Mom encouraged my photographic eye from the beginning, providing me with film for stylized photoshoots of my dolls and to take images of my first Nephew who was born when I was almost 7 years old.
When my Mom passed away in August of 2000,
I was beyond grateful for all of the photographs that were not only taken, but printed and put in albums, as she lives on through all of those memories captured.
When I decided to open Six17 Photography in April of 2012, I wanted to pay tribute to my Mom, which is where our name comes from. Her birthday was June 17th or Six17.
I have been married to my loving Husband since 2005; Mom to our wonderful Son; and Mom to our dog Beau who we adopted through the Spirit of Hope Rescue in 2023. I have had pets in my life since the day I was born, so when I say that it is OK to include your furry family members in our shoots, I really mean it!
I can’t walk by a dog without stopping to say hello.
I took voice lessons from one of Bryan Adams vocal coaches when I was in High School.
I met Michael Jordan at the Ameritech Senior Open in 1999.
I bought my own drum kit in the early 90s when I was managing Sam the Record Man.
